Sustainable Solutions for Apparel & Sportswear :
The Pebax® range includes grades that can be processed into breathable, waterproof, monolithic films. These films have a high and adjustable MVTR (moisture vapor transfer rate) and excellent tear strength that won't weigh down athletes. Our team works with partners film makers and laminators that can provide Pebax® films.
Key benefits of Pebax® films over micro-porous films:
No loss of performance over time
- Higher mechanical strenght
- Higher water-entry pressure
- Better odor and liquid barrier behavior
- Bio-based options available
Our commitment to more sustainable yarns:
BIO-BASED SOLUTIONS FOR TEXTILES
The textile industry is considered among the most polluting industries in the world. The use of low quality fabrics and petroleum-based fibers led to the situation we are facing today. It's time to rethink how we manufacture textiles: with more sustainable and durable materials, and ensuring human rights and good working conditions are respected along the value chain.
Arkema provides high-performance materials solutions derived from a sustainable feedstock: castor beans.

A SIMPLE, TRANSPARENT & RESPONSIBLE VALUE CHAIN:
We work with partners specialized in fiber manufacturing to provide bio-based and renewable yarns made from our Rilsan® PA11.
Rilsan® PA11 is the solution for 100% bio-based, high-end and durable textiles. PA11 properties for textiles include:
- Ultra lightweight (15% lighter than conventional nylons)
- Pilling & abrasion resistance
- Fast drying
- Stain resistance
- Odor control, intrinsic bacteriostatic behavior (no additives)
- Premium comfort, touch & feel
- Low energy need for dyeing
- Transparent feedstock origin
Platamid® hot melt adhesives are available in filament, web, and film form.
Bio-based grades available.
FOCUS ON: CASTOR BEANS
Rilsan® PA11, Pebax® Rnew® elastomers and Platamid® Rnew® Hot Melt adhesives are all derived from the same feedstock: castor beans. The cultivation of castor beans has a lot of advantages :
- No competition with food crops
- No contribution to deforestation
- Castor grows on the poorest soils
- Castor is more drought-resistant than many other crops
ACTING WITHIN THE CASTOR COMMUNITY:
In order to ensure best working conditions for Indian farmers and drive sustainable castor crop production, Arkema launched the Pragati Initiative in 2016 with its partners BASF, Jayant Agro-Organics and the NGO Solidaridad. The program aims at educating farmers, helping them increase their income while using good agricultural and environmental practices (reducing water consumption).

HIGH-PERFORMANCE SOLUTIONS FOR TEXTILES
Kynar® PVDF fibers can be woven into socks and other garments for outstanding durability, and added sweat and odor resistance. For garments, Kynar® PVDF outperforms ETFE, PP, and PA6 and also has great washing resistance and abrasion/friction resistance, which could potentially lead to fewer blisters.
