Kynar® PVDF Resin
Regulatory Status
REGULATORY STATUS OF KYNAR® POLYVINYLIDENE FLUORIDE
Select Kynar® PVDF homopolymer resins may be safely used in articles intended for repeated contact with food per Title 21, Code of Federal Regulations, Chapter 1, part 177.2510. Similarly, some Kynar Flex® PVDF copolymer resin meets part 177.2600. Also, some Kynar® homopolymer resins are acceptable for use in processing or storage areas in contact with meat or poultry food products prepared under federal inspection according to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
There are specific grades of Kynar® homopolymer resins that comply with the criteria in “3-A Sanitary Standards for Multiple-Use Plastic Materials Used as Product Contact Surfaces for Dairy Equipment, Serial No. 2000.” Also, some Kynar® homopolymer and Kynar Flex® copolymer resins have been tested and are in compliance with United States Pharmacopeia (USP) Classification VI. Several Kynar® homopolymer resin grades have been listed with the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) under Standard 61 for potable water applications, NSF-51 for food equipment, and NSF-14 for pressure-rated piping.
Some Kynar® homopolymer and copolymer resin grades also meet FDA regulations part 177.1520 for single use in polyolefins to 1% levels in masterbatches.
Please contact Arkema to learn which grades of Kynar® homopolymers and copolymers meet these regulatory approvals.

WATER CONTACT APPLICATIONS
Kynar® PVDF has been recognized as a premier material of construction for high purity water in semi- conductor and pharmaceutical industries. Kynar® PVDF pipes, valves, fittings, tubing, spigots, nozzles and membranes are used to process 18 meg-ohm DI water and water for injection (WFI). More recently Kynar® PVDF has become a common material of choice for drinking water applications that require NSF-61 listing and long term performance in water that has high chlorine content or water that is disinfected with strong oxidants like ozone. Kynar® PVDF based hollow fiber membranes are used in waste water treatment and water purification.
In addition to the proven history, it is worth mentioning that Kynar® PVDF can be steam cleaned to 140°C, meets ASTM E84 25/50 listing (certain grades), welds easily, is highly abrasion resistant, and is FDA compliant per Title 21, Code of Federal Regulations, Chapter 1, part 177.2510
